Do you like to use Gaffed Cards? What are the disadvantages and advantages of them?

I don't generally like using Gaffed Cards unless I've already developed a high degree of control over the attention of my audience, and the Gaff appears "clean". They are astounding when used correctly used though, and fool magicians particularly well (though do keep in mind that some things that fool magicians will not necessarily fool spectators, and vice versa).

well i dont like gaff decks but individual gaff cards are great. I recently bought the ultra gaff from ellusionist, absolutely beautiful that combined with an 1800 deck from ellusionist as well = a crowd killer of a routine Wink

Ellusionist, in my opinion, has overpriced tricks (well... most of them). One thing that they DO have that are really great are their cards. I've had my eyes on the Masters Deck for a long time, and the Vintage 1800's deck looks good as well.

i do agree most things on there are overpriced and overacted. but i agree the cards are incredible, i have the black tigers ghosts vipers masters and shadow masters all beautiful decks. If you think the regular bike air flow finish is nice, get a hold of masters with uv-500. beautiful. The 1800 deck looks great but the handling is a bit less than a usual deck of bikes but better than a cheap deck. but one thing i love about there decks is all of the reaveals on the case and cards and such, in the bar code on the jokers etc. makes for some jaw dropping effects

Personally, I just like to use normal Bicycles. In general, a spectator will believe you're using gaffed or marked cards if you use a deck that they aren't used to, if you use something that they are used to, even if it's gaffed or marked they don't as easily suspect that it is.

Hakozusu, that is why I also use normal Bicycles. However, I have a thing for Ellusionist's Masters deck, which is a normal bicycle deck except it has a super-cool finish (better than normal) and a sweet looking ace of spades. Smile

Yes, the ace of spades is more aesthetically pleasing to some people, though I still prefer just to use what people are used to (even if the only visible difference is one card) for the reasons listed above.

Honestly i just hand out the deck and case if they ask, usually if i have something set up i have it set up in a way i can just palm it off or just leave it in the box. so i use a viper deck beautiful finish very eye catching, another nice touch is the card clips you can get, it is saving my card case right now and looks great Wink

I've got a number of gaffed decks but really never use them. I'm a great fan of Harry Lorayne's tricks which can almost always be done with a borrowed deck. The only gaffed decks I use are Invisible Deck, Brainstormer & Nudist Deck. A one way back deck such as Bicycle League are very useful for Out of This World but that's not a gaff.
It seems to that, basically, any 'unusual' deck is regarded with suspicion, so I stick to regular bikes, Tally Ho & Stud decks.

I like Simon Lovell's "Blue deck". It's a gaffed deck of cards, look it up. Ellusionist has some cool looking decks, but people generally get suspicious when seeing something that they're not used to.

That's good. Is there any specific gimmicks anybody likes to use? How much do you use invisible thread?

well i just recently got the tarantual by yigal mesika, and that is beautiful. so i will be using it far more. you can do a bunch of levitations basically impromptu if you have this gimmick, and naturally hovercard is included in there. but looks great. but other than that i dont really have much more for gimmicks other than a homemade raven i never use a self tying shoelace gimmick(again homemade) and a z wallet, love that wallet works beautifully

Is tarantula good? I've heard great things about it. Is it angle sensitive, easy/hard, what restrictions are there?

well i think the ring thing dropping it in the other persons finger is a bit iffy and would take a bit of practise. its not terribly angle sensitive you can have it in your hand and show your hands without most people noticing. the dvd isnt all that great it has the basic ideas and principles but few subtleties and almost no patter, not good for an intro magician but for a magician who makes up their own patter anyways (i have issues with using store bought patter Razz) the restrictions arent that bad, it can be almost inpromptu for the most part and he does supply an alternate method on setting up the ring trick without notice. All in all not a bad trick the gimmick is worth it, the dvd is iffy id say intermediate to advanced level magicians only would be able to make the most out of the dvd to begin with and of course the trick. and as is said on the site it is a reel but cleverly hidden so it can be easily ditched or kept in hand (where it usually is anyways) still invisible thread restrictions though, it uses the spider pen refills so you dont have to worry about seperating threads or anything.
