Yeah, I tend to use the spread cull while I'm removing cards from the deck. Or just spreading it to show that it's nicely shuffled. Of course, it's best to let the spectators shuffle. Though that isn't always possible.

Hehe...I stil vote for stacked deck. Let me give you an example. i want to share with you guys with a trick. No name. No copyright. So i can revealed it. It's perform by cyril in japan and my friend was on the spot. He is a big fan of cyril.
Setup: One duplicate card on top of the deck (example: Spade of 7*(S7*)) [ps: it's mark with 7* means duplicate.]
Preparation: Take the original Spade of 7(S7) and put it on top on Spade of 7*
Routine:
take the 1st card (S7) and show them and you sign it (sign exactly like the duplicate one)
fan the deck and ask the spectator to choose a card (example Spade of Ace (SA)). Sign it.
prepare to double lift as they sign, then put their card on top of the deck. Then place the double lift on top.
effect 1: put the 1st card on your left, show them and mention this is your card (S7) on the left, put the second card on your right and mention this is their card (SA) on the right. Tell them everytime you snap your finger you may turn the time back 10second. Now switch the two card and snap your finger, and turn the left card over and say "see,it S7 still there when 10sec ago'
effect 2: ask if they believe and you will do it again. Now take the left card and switch with the right card. Now at this time, you snap your finger and take the right card and put on top of the deck, ask them to turn over the left card. It's S7 again!
effect 3:As they turn over the card prepare your double lift. At this rate, the top of the deck is S7 and the next is SA. Double lift and ask them place the turn over card S7 (just now) on the top of the deck. While you stil holding the double lift, show them your card is SA and put double lift on top of the deck.
Now tell them you would prove to them again. Take the 1st card S7 and said its your card (don't show) and put it on the left and double lift the both card on top of the deck and show them S7 and put it on the table on your right face up. Take the deck and put it on top of the double lift all face up. DONt cover the double lift with the deck completely, leave the double lift one 2inch below so that the S7 can be display. You said you will press the deck hardly so that the card cannot escape this time.
Now snap your finger and ask them turn over the left card and it's S7! And as they turn over, push forward the S7 on your right with your thumb leaving SA beneath the deck. Now while they turn their head on and look at your SA on right, just pull the card hardly out. and hand to them. Shuffle the deck. (cyril does one hand cut)
_____it's a very long routine, but hope you understand it. i really love this trick. I love simple stacked deck.

So do I...
Impromptu...usually i perform it for the 2nd...
The first is absolutely the one which is prepared...
and as lotrmaster6 said, i agree with him...
Practice Doesn't Make Perfect
But Perfect Practice Makes Perfect

It really depends on your situation guys. When you have a reputation as a "magic maker" and someone asks you to do a trick, and you act the part of it being spur of the moment, it can be incredibly powerful, even if the deck is set up. This makes it seem impromptu.
