A link is above if you haven't heard of him, he is credited with many well-known illusions and being the "father of modern magic." Eric Weiss himself made his stage alias 'Houdini' after the impression that when adding "i" to a word, it meant "like ____".

What is your opinion of him? Have you heard of him previously?

Oops, I think the link isn't working, this one should work: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Robert_Houdin

I do believe that Houdin was probably one of the most defining magicians that has ever lived. I've run across him countless times in my study of card and stage magic, and have learned ALOT from him.

If you've seen the movie the Illusionist (One of my favorites), a very famous part of it was the "orange tree", where things an orange tree grew at an incredibly fast speed. Robert-Houdin is credited with creating this trick.
